Back in 1991, Bill Swerski’s Superfans took their regular table at Ditka’s on Saturday Night Live.

Dark sunglasses. Thick mustaches. Bears sweaters. Heavy glass beer mugs. Enough sausage on the table to give even those watching a little arm pain.

They gathered to discuss a certain team from a certain Midwestern town. Their analysis was sober, even when they weren’t.

Da Bears by 60.
Da Coach against an entire team.
Ditka against a hurricane. Although, to be fair, the hurricane was Hurricane Ditka.

To the Superfans, every Bears victory was a foregone conclusion. They would make a wildly irresponsible prediction, hoist their mugs and say the two words that eventually outgrew the sketch.

“DA BEARS.”
The sketch became a recurring part of the early ’90s. The phrase became part of Chicago. Pride, pain, sausage and unreasonable optimism, all packed into two words.

DA YEAR comes from that same table.
The same voice.
The same swagger.
The same glorious disregard for probability.

Bears fans have carried it through quarterback debates, coaching searches and draft seasons that occasionally began before Christmas.

And still, my frents, we kept coming back.

Da roster is near perfect.
